The details

The sound is simple physics with a lot of charm: when you pour, air gets trapped in the fish's tail, and as you tip it back upright, that air escapes with a gurgle. It works with water, lemonade, iced tea, and sangria, and it gurgles whether or not there's ice inside.

The Large is 42 oz and GurglePot's most popular size, big enough to keep a family dinner or a patio afternoon going without constant trips to the tap. It's made of durable stoneware, high fired for a rich, glossy finish, and the glaze is food safe. When dinner's over, it goes right in the dishwasher. GurglePot notes it's intended for cold beverages only.

The GurglePot story

GurglePot started at a wedding dinner in a small village in southern France. Founder Matt Ellison was staying with a French host family, and with no shared language between them, the three to four hour dinners had plenty of quiet stretches. What saved the evening was a fish-shaped water pitcher that gurgled every time someone poured. Matt started drinking more water than wine just to fill the room with that sound and get the table laughing.

He came home and began sculpting his own version. It took ten years, two kids, 15 molds, and one typhoon off the coast of China before the GurglePot was ready to share. The goal hasn't changed since that dinner in France: bring a few more smiles to the table.
