Cast Iron Oil
Walrus Oil Cast Iron Oil
The cast iron in your kitchen can outlive you — provided it gets a little oil along the way. Walrus Oil's Cast Iron Oil is the simplest way to keep it there: a two-ingredient penetrating oil that builds durable, non-stick layers over time, whether you're seasoning a fresh piece or restoring one you found at an estate sale.
The details
Made from just two ingredients — polymerizing safflower oil and plant-derived vitamin E — Cast Iron Oil is formulated for penetration. This particular safflower oil variety has an unusually high smoke point and thin viscosity, letting it work its way into the metal and build real coats even without oven heat. No other polymerizing oil on the market matches its smoke point.
Where Cast Iron Seasoning is thickened with beeswax for a smoother, more substantial barrier, Cast Iron Oil stays thin and fast — a quick wipe-on treatment for regular maintenance, rust prevention, and building seasoning gradually through everyday cooking. The two work well together: this is the everyday oil, Seasoning is the deeper treatment.
Apply a thin coat to all surfaces after washing and drying cast iron. For passive protection, that's it — no heat needed. For active seasoning, preheat the oven to 375–425°F, apply a thin coat, and bake the piece dish-side down for 30–60 minutes with the oven door cracked for ventilation.
