The details

A Bundt cake is deep, dense, and baked in a dark pan, which makes it one of the hardest cakes to judge by eye. The top can look perfectly golden while the middle is still underdone, and an underbaked Bundt is the number one reason a cake sticks to the pan. This little tool takes the guesswork out of the moment that matters most.

Insert the thermometer into the center of the cake and hold it there for about 5 seconds. If the tip turns red, the cake is ready to come out. If it doesn't, give it a few more minutes and check again. Like a classic cake tester, it should also come out clean, so you get two signs of doneness from one quick check.

It's made of aluminum, about 5½ inches long, with a slim probe that leaves only a tiny mark in the cake. A silicone tip cover protects the probe in the drawer between bakes. Hand wash it in warm, soapy water and keep it away from open flames, and it'll be ready for the next cake.
