Angel hair, orzo, a pint of blueberries. Pour it all in and only the water leaves. This colander drains fast and completely, and nothing small slips through.

The details

Most colanders have a few rows of large holes punched near the bottom, which means slow draining and a puddle left in the bowl. This one is different. The entire bowl, from rim to base, is covered in small, evenly spaced holes, so water drains quickly from every side and nothing pools at the bottom. Because the holes are so fine, even orzo and angel hair stay put.

It's made from polished 18-8 stainless steel that resists corrosion, won't hold onto odors, and looks good enough to leave out on the counter. A wide rim base keeps it steady in the sink and raises it above the sink floor, so drained food isn't sitting in the water that just ran out of it.

It's a long-time favorite of Cook's Illustrated, and it goes right in the dishwasher.

Choose your size

  • 3 Quart: A great everyday size for a pound of pasta, a head of broccoli, or rinsing fruit for the week. Easy to store in a standard cabinet.
  • 5 Quart: The workhorse for big batches, holiday potatoes, and family-size pasta nights, with plenty of room to toss and shake.

Why we love it at Berry + Basil
